The Shoppers Drug Mart store is a stand-alone retail facility in downtown Yellowknife. Working with Konge Construction Ltd.
as the design-builder, the design for the facility was developed
in the spring of 2007 with construction beginning that fall. Construction was completed in September, 2008.

Working within the design guidelines provided by Shoppers Drug Mart, PSAV developed documentation for the base building. The plans were modified to account for our northern climate and short summer construction period. The modifications included: boilers
in a mechanical room rather than roof top heating units, MBM roofing, prefinished structural insulated panels rather than acrylic stucco, higher insulation levels at the roof, walls and below the floor slab.

Energy efficiency is always a necessity. Energy efficient design elements included: an MBM air/vapour barrier at the exterior walls with appropriate insulation levels, efficient mechanical / electrical systems, lighting and controls, and thermally broken aluminum framed windows with triple glazed, low-E, argon filled sealed units.
